Nations Responding to Christ

2 07 2012

Matthew 25:40 And the king will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.’

For the first 3 centuries of Christian faith, Jesus Christ’s people were severely persecuted. Then for 1000 years, the church had a prominent role in European society. Much fighting and perseuction over reforms followed. Then came “secular states”.  Jesus has foretold humanity of the coming great judgment. Anyone can read of it, in Matthew 25:31-46. This is not a parable. It contains a simile, ‘sheep and goats’, to the ‘right hand’ or ‘left hand’.  Jesus gave these clear points:

  1. We are accountable; and all will need to give account for life.
  2. Judgment awaits everyone;  ‘the Son of Man’ will come!
  3. There is no favouritism—all judgment will be very fair indeed.
  4. All of our excuses will be dismissed.
  5. Not everyone is going the same way.
  6. There will be some surprises in store for people.
  7. It will be a day of joyful inheritance for Christ’s people
  8. The test for eternal life, is not the ‘works’ we have done
  9. The test for eternal life is response to Jesus Christ and his people
  10. Many will have honoured Christ, by helping his ‘little ones’
  11. There is a frightening reality called ‘eternal punishment’
  12. Christ’s gospel is a kindness, able to save anyone who responds
  13. The dividing line of humanity will be into 2 groups, only.
  14. The key is: ‘the least of these who are members of my family’
  15. The Greek word for “nations” is ‘ethne’, that it, ‘people groups’

Dear Lord Jesus, thank you that through hearing and believing you, we have been judged, and do not come under a condemning judgment, now, but have passed from death to life (John 5:24). Help us, as ‘the least’ of your family to confidently share what we know of you, and your grace, with all groups of people.
